The Fun City Bowl is a strictly New York metropolitan area sports classic, and The Steve Rich Group was privileged to deliver the culinary highlights like never before.
First a quick backdrop on the event.
Every year since 1973, New York’s Bravest and New York’s Finest have squared off on the gridiron in what grew into the ‘Fun City Bowl’— a charitable showdown also known as ‘The Civil War’.
The annual donnybrook was born in an animated Brooklyn barroom discussion in 1972 between NYPD officer Joe Loughran and FDNY firefighter Pudgy Walsh about who were the better atheltes … that resulted in a challenge match the following year. The rest is history.
The first showdown was at Midwood Field on Avenue K in Brooklyn, while the event is now played on the same hallowed turf our New York Football Giants and New York Jets call home.
The 2021 Installment
The FDNY was victorious in this year’s event, 20-14, and while the game itself is as intense a rivalry as any in sports — the First Responders Children’s Foundation was the real winner, and a great time was had by one and all.
Prior to kickoff, the tailgate event was center of attention with the Steve Rich Group’s ‘TankQue’ grilling up a storm. Commenting on the overall success of the day, “The success of any event is the help you get from volunteers and donations” said TankQue inventor and local business owner Steve Rich, ” … and friends, family and new friends came pouring out.”
